Quentin Tarantino talks about Once Upon a Time in Hollywood saying it is “close to Pulp Fiction”

Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt are starring in Quentin Tarantino’s ninth film, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

During the opening night of CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Tarantino talked about the film and that it was “probably the closest to Pulp Fiction that I have done.”

“Sony and myself will be coming to the theatres with the most exciting star dynamic since Paul Newman and Robert Redford. It’s very hush-hush and top secret. But I can tell you that Once Upon a Time in Hollywood takes place in 1969, at the height of the counterculture, hippy revolution and the height of new Hollywood. Street by street, block by block, we’ll transform Los Angeles into the Hollywood of 1969.”

DiCaprio said, “I think Tarantino transports us into a different era. I’m a huge fan of Singing in the Rain, movies about Hollywood and the backstory and how it all works. Having read the script already, it’s one of the most amazing screenplays he’s ever written and that’s saying a lot, because he’s done masterwork in film.”

Tarantino had previously said that the film “takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood. The two lead characters are Rick Dalton (DiCaprio), former star of a western TV series, and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Pitt). Both are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don’t recognize anymore. But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbour… Sharon Tate.”

“I’ve been working on this script for five years, as well as living in Los Angeles County most of my life, including in 1969, when I was seven years old. I’m very excited to tell this story of an LA and a Hollywood that don’t exist anymore. And I couldn’t be happier about the dynamic teaming of DiCaprio and Pitt as Rick and Cliff.”

Margot Robbie has also been attached to the film for a while and it is thought she will be playing Sharon Tate. DiCaprio and Robbie worked together in The Wolf of Wall Street. DiCaprio previously starred in Tarantino’s Django Unchained, while Pitt was in Inglourious Basterds.

Sony is handling distribution and the film is due out on 9th August 2019.
