Crom! Amazon is bringing us a Conan the Barbarian TV show

Amazon is working on a TV show of Conan the Barbarian, based on the books by Robert E. Howard.

I’ve always been a fan of Conan and it will be interesting to see how this goes.

Deadline is reporting that the show is coming from Colony co-creator Ryan Condal, Game of Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik, Fargo and The Handmaid’s Tale executive producer Warren Littlefield, Pathfinder Media and Endeavor Content.

Condal admits to having a personal obsession with the material, which Sapochnik also has been a longtime fan of, leading to their collaboration on the project with the creative goal to return to the original Howard literary works and produce a series that is faithful to the spirit of his Conan character.

That last statement does fill me with hope for the new project. The books and comics have always been most enjoyable and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s first Conan film got the tone right. Sadly the sequel and the more recent Conan film with Jason Momoa didn’t work for me.

Lots of potential here especially if they start with the early years of Conan he was a thief, outlaw, mercenary, and pirate before amassing power and wealth as he grew older.

This isn’t the first time that Conan has had a TV show. Ralf Möller played the character in 1997’s Conan the Adventurer and there have been two animated shows.

There is no word yet on who will be playing Conan, but I will definitely be keeping an eye on this.

What do you want to see in a Conan TV show?
