Starset’s Dustin Bates talks about science, music, comic books and more
At this year’s New York ComicCon, I (along with After the Ending podcast co-host Phil Edwards) had the chance to speak with Dustin Bates, lead singer of the hit rock band Starset, co-writer of The Prox Transmissions graphic novel, member of the Starset Society, and science ambassador of pop culture.
What does all that mean? Well, Bates and Starset are part of the Starset Society, whose mission is “to shed light upon various emerging near-future technologies, to investigate the potential and inevitable social, economic, political, and philosophical impacts thereof.”
To that end, Bates has created a great new science fiction graphic novel, The Prox Transmissions, and that’s the jumping off point for our conversation (which you can hear in its entirety below). We also discuss the band, the cinematic music they create, who might star in Starset movies, and much more!
It’s a truly fascinating interview with a rock star who’s part scientist/part showman and all genius!
