The Random is a round-up of various bits and pieces of news.

• Zack Snyder is stepping away from Justice League, Warner Bros. in order to deal with the sudden death of his daughter. Snyder’s wife, Deborah Snyder, who is a producer on Justice League, also is taking a break to focus on the healing of their family. Joss Whedon (Buffy, The Avengers) is going to see the film through post and the shooting of some additional scenes – THR
• Resident Evil is being rebooted and James Wan has come aboard to produce from a script by Greg Russo, and it will have an entirely new cast – Deadline
• The top image shows Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) as Ophelia in the film of the same name. Directed by Claire McCarthy (The Waiting City). Set in the 14th Century but spoken in a contemporary voice, Ophelia is a dynamic re-imagining of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Ophelia (Ridley) takes center stage as the Queen’s (Naomi Watts) most trusted lady-in-waiting. Beautiful and intelligent, she soon captures the attention of the handsome Prince Hamlet and a forbidden love blossoms. As war brews, lust and betrayal are tearing Elsinore Castle apart from within and Ophelia must decide between her true love or her own life in order to protect a very dangerous secret.
• Red Dead Redemption 2 has been delayed from its previously-announced fall 2017 release date to a spring 2018 release – Rockstar Games
• Nat Wolff (The Fault in Our Stars, Paper Towns) is set to star in Mortal, the upcoming fantasy adventure from Norwegian filmmaker Andre Ovredal (The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Trollhunter). The film is a coming-of-age origins story of a young man (Wolff) discovering he has God-like powers based on ancient Norwegian mythology.
• Willem Dafoe is set to play Vincent van Gogh in Julian Schnabel’s At Eternity’s Gate.
• Supergirl tries on Wonder Woman’s gear in this new promo.

• Sam Mendes is in early talks to direct Disney’s live-action Pinocchio. Chris Weitz wrote the current version of the script and will also be producing – Deadline
• Jesse Eisenberg will play French mime Marcel Marceau in the upcoming film Resistance. The film will focus on Marceau’s involvement in the French resistance when his country was occupied by the Nazis during World War II. Jonathan Jakubowicz (Hands of Stone) will direct and write the picture – Variety
• Rihanna and Lupita Nyong’o will costar in a buddy movie directed by Ava DuVernay for Netflix, based on a Tumblr post (see below) – EW
