Carrie Fisher has passed away

Ah, so, so sad. As we all know, Carrie Fisher suffered a heart attack just before Christmas. Sadly, she has died. She was 60 years old.

“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning,” read a statement from family spokesperson Simon Halls. “She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”

As she wanted it reported, she drowned in moonlight, strangled by her own bra!

I know we have lost many celebrities this year, but this one really hits hard. She has been a huge part of my life because of the Star Wars films and it just feels so wrong that Princess Leia is no more. Of course, she did so much more, but Leia was a truly iconic role. My 10 year old daughter has also just come up to me to say she can’t believe Carrie Fisher is dead. She touched so many generations of fans and I am truly sad she has passed away.

Fisher made her film debut in the Columbia Pictures comedy Shampoo (1975) starring Warren Beatty, Julie Christie and Goldie Hawn. In 1977, Fisher starred as Princess Leia in George Lucas’ science-fiction film Star Wars.

Fisher later appeared in The Blues Brothers film as Jake’s vengeful ex-lover. She appeared on Broadway in Censored Scenes from King Kong in 1980. That year, she reprised her role as Princess Leia in The Empire Strikes Back, and appeared as herself with her Star Wars costars on the cover of the July 12, 1980 issue of Rolling Stone to promote the film. She also appeared in the Broadway production of Agnes of God in 1982.

In 1983, Fisher returned to the role of Princess Leia in Return of the Jedi

Fisher is one of the few actors or actresses to star in films with both John and James Belushi, later appearing with the latter in the film The Man with One Red Shoe. She appeared in the Woody Allen film Hannah and her Sisters in 1986.

In 1987, Fisher published her first novel, Postcards from the Edge. The book was semi-autobiographical in the sense that she fictionalized and satirized real-life events such as her drug addiction of the late 1970s and her relationship with her mother. It became a bestseller, and she received the Los Angeles Pen Award for Best First Novel. In 1989, Fisher played a major supporting role in When Harry Met Sally, and she appeared with Tom Hanks as his wife in The ‘Burbs.

Then, of course she was back as Leia for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and it was so good to see her back in the role.

She had an extensive career on TV as well, with appearances as herself on Sex and the City and The Big Bang Theory, along with roles on Entourage, 30 Rock and Smallville. In recent years, she voiced Peter’s boss Angela on Fox’s Family Guy and played Rob’s mother Mia on Amazon’s UK comedy Catastrophe.

She is a legend and she will be missed.
