Ben Wheatley & Tom Hiddleston may make Frank Miller & Geof Darrow’s Hard Boiled

Warner Bros. are currently in negotiations to get the rights to Frank Miller and Geof Darrow’s Hard Boiled. If all goes well they are looking for Ben Wheatley (Kill List, Free Fire) to develop the action film with Tom Hiddleston to star. The pair worked together on High-Rise.

Hard Boiled is a super cool comic, mainly due to Geof Darrow’s amazingly detailed art work. I know I own the comics somewhere, so need to dig them out and have another read.

Carl Seltz is a suburban insurance investigator, a loving husband, and devoted father. Nixon is a berserk, homicidal tax collector racking up mind-boggling body counts in a diseased urban slaughterhouse. Unit Four is the ultimate robot killing machine – and the last hope of the future’s enslaved mechanical servants. And they’re all the same psychotic entity.

Back in 2001 Warner Bros. said the same thing about getting the rights to the comic. Back then David Fincher was rumoured to direct and Nicolas Cage to star. It sounds as if this is still very early days for the project. I hope it does happen, but they would have to find a way to get the feel of Darrow’s art work on to the big screen.

The film will be a co-production between Solipsist Films and Hollywood Gang, produced by Stephen L’Heureux, Bernie Goldmann and Gianni Nunnari. Solipsist did Miller’s Sin City, and Hollywood Gang did Miller’s 300.
