Cool Supercut: The films that inspired Stranger Things

stranger things

Netflix’s Stranger Things was a brilliant piece of television. One of the best shows I have seen in a long time. Great acting, cool story and some very creepy moments. It was also a love letter to the films and TV shows of the 80s. Imagine Stephen Spielberg, John Carpenter and Joe Dante working on an adaptation of a Stephen King novel and you have got Stranger Things.

Ulysse Thevenon put together this cool video that looks at some of the films that inspired the the look and feel of Stranger Things. He has put them side by side with moments from the show.

Obviously, there are spoilers ahead.

What references did he miss?

  1. I definitely got the homages to E.T and Stand by Me while watching this series. I didn’t catch the Commando reference I guess I should binge watch it again to make sure.

    • Yes, I missed the Commando reference when watching the show, but it has been a long time since I last watched that film

  2. I loved this series, it took me right back to being a child again!

    • Indeed. It did everything so well and still felt very fresh.
