Suicide Squad in Singapore

It’s action stations this summer at Singapore cinemas

If you’re an action fan, the new movies about to be released into Singapore cinemas will have you raring to go. From graphic novel realisations to on-going franchises and remakes of famous classics, there’s something for everyone.

Here’s a taste of the best that’s on offer.

Suicide Squad

Based on the popular DC Comics series, Suicide Squad concerns a group of extremely talented super villains who are offered clemency for their crimes if they execute a series of almost impossible-to-achieve black ops.

Opening in Singapore cinemas on the 4th of August, it stars Will Smith, Margo Robbie, Jared Leto and a host of other talented individuals under the direction of action legend David Ayer (Fury, End of Watch, Street Kings).

Hired by a secret government agency, this unlikely squad of antiheroes are unleashed from their various prisons and asylums to save the world from a mysterious, unknown threat.

Jason Bourne

The world thought it had seen the end of Jason Bourne when he disappeared into the shadows at the end of The Bourne Ultimatum in 2007. Once again starring Matt Damon alongside Julia Stiles and Tommy Lee Jones, Jason Bourne is back on the big screens on 28th of July. It also brings back the steady hand of director Paul Greengrass in his third take on the Bourne franchise.

With the world in a state of tenuous instability, Bourne emerges from hiding in order to uncover more of his past, even though a new programme has been developed to hunt him down.

The Magnificent Seven

Scheduled for a 22nd of September release, this is actually the second remake of what is considered one of the greatest Westerns of all time (the original Magnificent Seven was a remake of the Kurosawa classic, Seven Samurai). Directed by Antoine Fuqua and scripted by Nic Pizzolatto, creator and scriptwriter of True Detective, it tells the tale of a group of outlaws hired by townsfolk to protect them against an evil industrialist.

Starring Denzel Washington, Ethan Hawke, Chris Pratt, Vincent D’Onofrio and a multitude of Hollywood action elites, this is an update worthy of its highly regarded predecessors. Featuring spectacular action sequences, razor sharp dialogue and a brilliant soundtrack, it’s an edge-of-your-seat Western that never lets its audience off the hook from start to finish.

And that’s just the start of what’s on offer in Singapore cinemas this summer. There’s plenty more to come, so stay tuned for more updates on everything from family movies through to sci-fi and drama.
