Eddie Murphy is heading to Beverly Hills Cop 4
A fourth Beverly Hills Cop film has been in development hell for a long time. There was a pilot for a TV show, but that went nowhere. Now it appears that Axel Foley will be heading back to the big screen.
Paramount have got Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah to direct. The Belgian writer-directors are best known for their drama Black, which won the Discovery Award at the Toronto Film Festival last year. The studio, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Eddie Murphy have been working to get the script and elements right.
According to Deadline, they were charmed to discover how important the original Beverly Hills Cop was to the young filmmakers. Even though this is a major step up from the budget of their last film, this became an opportunity to reframe a venerable franchise with youthful energy.
The script is by writers Josh Appelbaum & Andre Nemec and the new film will bring Murphy’s Axel Foley back to his Detroit origins.
The hope is to get the film in production late this year or early 2017.
