John Sayles to direct Franco Nero in a new Django movie

This is incredible news. For those of you who may not know, Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained featured the original Django in the shape of Franco Nero, although he wasn’t playing that character. He asked Jamie Foxx how he spelt his name.

Franco first played Django in Sergio Corbucci’s 1966 spaghetti western “Django. He last played Django in Nello Rossati’s Django Strikes Again.

Turns out that Nero is set to play Django once again and the film will be written and directed by John Sayles (The Brother from Another Planet, Lone Star, Passion Fish, Matewan, Eight Men Out and Silver City).

The new film is called Django Lives and is set 50 years after the first movie. Django is now a horse handler and an extra on the set of D.W. Griffith’s Birth of a Nation.

I love the sound of that. Potential for greatness with this one so I will be keeping a close eye on how it develops.

Louis Black is producing along with Carolyn Pfeiffer, David Hollander and Nancy P. Sanders of Fast Draw Films.
