Len Wiseman talks about Die Hard: Year One and Bruce Willis will help cast the young John McClane
Len Wiseman is working on a new Die Hard movie. This one will be Die Hard: Year One and feature Bruce Willis as John McClane and a younger version of John in flashbacks set in the 1970s. There was a Die Hard: Year One comic, but the film is going to go its own way. However, it will cut back and forth between the present and past said Wiseman.
It looks like they will be trying to correct some past mistakes. The first being that, unlike with the last Die Hard movie, they will finish the script before giving a release date for the film. A good idea, as I feel that always leads to a rushed script that results in a poorer film. Here is what Wiseman told /Film.
I think it’s also more so than any other time, the script’s very important. We’ve seen it all. We’ve seen a lot. I think even, say, 10 years ago, I think studios in general were a little bit more willing to put movies like that, franchise movies into production with a sense of ‘we’ll continue to work on the script.’ I think that attitude has changed.
Kind of an obvious thing, but good that studios are realising this.
It also looks like John’s wife, Holly Gennaro, will return. Bonnie Bedelia played the character in the first two Die Hard films. A young Holly will feature in the flashback scenes and there is a chance Bonnie Bedelia will return for some of the present-day scenes.
Finally, Wiseman and Willis will be involved in choosing who plays the young John McClane. As for who that will be I have no idea and my mind has gone blank as to who would be a good choice. Any suggestions?
I was disappointed with the last couple of Die Hard films, but this could be a good way to go. How do you feel about a Die Hard: Year One?
