The Sopranos Prequel
– New Line is moving ahead with its movie prequel to The Sopranos, hiring Alan Taylor to direct The Many Saints Of Newark. New Line set up the feature film in March when it bought the script from “The Sopranos” creator David Chase. The film is set in the 1960s in Newark, New Jersey, amid conflicts between African-American and Italian residents. Over four days of rioting in July, 1967, 26 people died and hundreds were injured in Newark – Variety
Skyward
Sony Pictures has landed the film rights to Joe Henderson’s graphic novel Skyward, with Henderson adapting and “Rampage” director Brad Peyton helming. Based on the Image Comics graphic novel that Henderson co-created with Lee Garbett, the story is set in a world where gravity suddenly becomes a fraction of what it is now. Twenty years later, humanity has adapted to its new low-gravity reality. The movie will follow a woman born just after G-Day who has become accustomed to it, but has come across a dangerous plan to bring gravity back – Variety
Child’s Play Remake
MGM is remaking Child’s Play, the 1980s horror movie centering on a toy doll possessed by the soul of a serial killer, with It producers David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith. MGM is fast-tracking the project, which has Lars Klevberg, the Norwegian filmmaker behind the horror movie Polaroid, in the director’s chair as it heads toward a production start in Vancouver this September. Tyler Burton Smith wrote the script – THR
The King of Oil
Matt Damon is in the early stages of attaching to star as the fugitive billionaire commodities trader Marc Rich in The King of Oil. Universal Pictures has optioned the project for Sunday Night Productions, which is John Krasinski’s production banner. Sources said Krasinski, who’s coming off the sleeper smash A Quiet Place, might eventually direct the film. The film is based on The King of Oil: The Secret Lives of Marc Rich, a no-holds-barred biography of Rich written by Daniel Ammann that sheds new light on one of the most controversial international businessmen of all time – Deadline
Midway
Luke Evans will star alongside Mandy Moore and Woody Harrelson in Midway, the big-budget World War II action movie being directed by Roland Emmerich. The movie will tell the story of the famed Battle of Midway, considered a turning point in America’s battle against Japan. Harrelson is playing Admiral Chester Nimitz, one of the officers who led the American naval fleet to victory in a foray that involved aircraft carriers, destroyers and cruisers. Evans will play Commander Wade McClusky, who would go on to win a Naval Cross for his role in Midway – THR
Fast and Furious Spinoff
The Crown‘s Vanessa Kirby is in final talks to join Universal’s Fast & Furious spinoff Hobbs and Shaw, which stars Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham and is directed by David Leitch, written by franchise screenwriter Chris Morgan.
The Last Jedi remake
While I was disappointed with The Last Jedi, some people hate it so much they want to get it remade. It’s never going to happen, but it has resulted in this great poster (below) by Fernando Reza. You can buy it here.
I also did a quick poll asking people which was their favourite and worst film out of the recent Star Wars movies.
Which do you feel is the worst of the new Star Wars films? #poll #StarWars #SoloAStarWarsStory #TheLastJedi #RogueOne #TheForceAwakens
