Mary Tyler Moore has passed away
Mary Tyler Moore has died aged 80.
She was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in her thirties. In May 2011, Moore underwent elective brain surgery to remove a benign meningioma.
Her representative Mara Buxbaum released the following statement – “Today, beloved icon, Mary Tyler Moore, passed away at the age of 80 in the company of friends and her loving husband of over 33 years, Dr. S. Robert Levine. A groundbreaking actress, producer, and passionate advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Mary will be remembered as a fearless visionary who turned the world on with her smile.”
She was best known for her roles in the television sitcoms The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970–1977), in which she starred as Mary Richards, a thirty-something single woman who worked as a local news producer in Minneapolis; and The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961–1966), in which she played Laura Petrie. Her film work includes 1967’s Thoroughly Modern Millie and 1980’s Ordinary People, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress.
